Police in an overnight drive on Monday arrested four more people for their alleged involvement with the Ramu violence in Cox's Bazar.

The arrestees are Rezaul Karim, 25, of Chabagan Pahariapara; Mostaq Ahmed, 35, of Uttar Mithachhari Baruapara; Monsur Ali, 47, of Uttar Mithachhari Gainpara; and Mobin, 26, of Uttar Chakmakul in Ramu upazila, reports our Chittagong correspondent.

The four persons were arrested during a five-hour drive began 1:00am today, said Gazi Shakhawat Hossain, acting officer-in-charge of Ramu Police Station

They were arrested on specific charges and on adequate evidence, the OC said.

Nearly 100 people have so far been arrested in connection with the communal violence in Ramu where mobs destroyed 12 monasteries and 50 houses on September 29 following posting of an alleged defamation of the Qur’an on a facebook account of a local Buddhist person.

A total of eight cases were lodged over the Ramu violence with the local police station. Seven of the cases were filed by police while another was lodged by a Buddhist after the incident.
