Patuakhali, Oct 1 (bdnews24.com) – Chairman of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Regional Council Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma alias Santu Larma on Monday said that the Saturday's communal attacks Ramu's Buddhist village was the reflection of 'fundamentalist infiltration'.
Larma, also President of Parbattya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS), said that a similar incident took place in Rangamati hill district on Sep 22.
He made the remarks at a views exchange meeting at Parjatan Holiday Homes auditorium at Kuakata in Patuakhali district with the leaders of Buddhist Rakhain community living in Patuakhali and Barguna districts.
Organising Secretary of Bangladesh Indigenous People's Forum Shakti Pada Tripura also attended at the programme.
The riot broke out at Ramu on Saturday night and continued for five hours when religious zealots set seven Buddhist temples and at least 30 houses ablaze starting 11:30pm. The hate attacks spread to Patia, Ukhia and Teknaf the next day.
On Sep 20, at least 20 people were injured in clashes between Bengali settlers and ethnic minorities in Rangamati town following an altercation between two students over sitting in a Rangamati Government College bus.
