Leaders of Kendrio Chhatra Sangram Parishad (KCSP), an alliance of seven student organisations, on Tuesday blamed the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami for attacking the Buddhist temples at Ramu in Cox's Bazar on Saturday night.
At a rally held on the DU campus, they said the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was trying to establish a secular Bangladesh, but the oppositions, particularly the BNP and Jamaat, are desparate to foil the mission and vision of the government.
The leaders also accused the cadres of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) of vitiating academic atmosphere at all educational institutions in the country. They were also trying to establish their supremacy on the university and college campuses through muscle power and other illegal activities.
The rally was organised to protest and demand the exemplary punishment of the attackers of the Buddhist temples.
HM Badiuzzaman Shohag, president of BCL presided over the rally while Siddique Nazmul Alam , general secretary of the organisation moderated the programme.
Chhatra League (JSD) president Husain Ahmed Tafsir and general secretary Shamsul Alam, Chhatra Andolon president Konok Borua, Chhatra Samiti president Zahidur Rahman, Chhatra Moitri general secretary Tanvir Rusmat BCL Vice-president Shahin Ahmed, Abu Hanif, Imaul Haque Titu, Joint secretary Shamsul Kabir Rahat, Mostafizur Rahman Mostaque, Mamunur Rashid Mamun, Hasanuzzaman Tareque and DU unit president Mehedi Hasan Mollah and general secretary Omar Sharif spoke on the occasion, among others.
Badiuzzaman Shohag accused Khaleda Zia of hatching conspiracy against the government as well as the country. She is trying to push the country backward, he added.
"She is lobbying globally to destroy the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's achievements", he said.
The KCSP leaders also criticised BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for trying what they said to save the war criminals and coming to power through back door.
They called upon the students in all educational institutions across the country to work hard to build prosperous Bangladesh imbued with the spirit of the Liberation War.
